Nando’s D&AD Brief
The Brief
The Sauce is an app concept I created in response to Nando’s D&AD New Blood brief.
Nando’s brief asked for a concept to build brand love amongst gen z’s and reconnect them with the South African born chain.
The solution to the brief had to focus on the restaurant experience and be action-driven.
I took on this brief to challenge myself to learn more about the whole process involved in tackling an advertising / branding brief - from research and insight, to copywriting and designing.
My Solution
The result of this was ‘The Sauce’, a storytelling feature that sits within Nando’s existing app, designed to be interacted with in the restaurant.
It aims to engage diners with the creators behind each of the four elements that, together, make up Nando’s restaurant experience, and represent their culture. These being - art, design, music and PERi-PERi.
A Platform for Creators
The homepage houses the bulk of my illustration work - a fully scrollable introduction to the creators.
It sign posts users to a wealth of content, from Nando’s creative blog for news on their latest restaurant refurb working with South African designers, to social platforms where they’ll find the winners of Nando’s latest competition for emerging South African musicians.
Interactivity
Live playlist updates, displayed in The Sauce, allow users to easily find the musicians they’re hearing in the restaurants and download their music on streaming platforms.
An AR feature lets users discover the artists behind the original South African artworks that fill the restaurant.
